
Gerry Green joined HCP at the beginning of March 1997, and is the company’s Chief Executive. During the first ten years of HCP’s development, Gerry was intimately involved in establishing its portfolio of projects. He was involved in closing a number of large health PFI deals and has a detailed knowledge of the complexities of these transactions. He now has responsibility for the Company’s overseas business developments, senior relations with the NHS while retaining a key role in the development of the company’s business strategy.
Gerry Green has extensive experience of managing health services both in the public and the private sector. He joined the National Health Service as a graduate entrant in 1974, and spent the early part of his career managing London Teaching Hospitals, notably St George’s Hospital and King’s College Hospital where he became the Administrator in 1982. Returning to the UK from the Middle East in 1987, Gerry was appointed to Bromley Health Authority as its District General Manager, a job he held until 1989 when he became General Manager of the South East Thames Regional Health Authority. In 1993 he was asked to merge the Royal London Hospital with St Bartholomew’s Hospital to create the Royal Hospitals NHS Trust, one of the largest in the UK with a turnover in excess of £220 million and 5,300 staff.
During his time at the Royal Hospitals, Gerry developed the business case to rebuild the Royal London Hospital in order to centralize the Trust’s activities. In promoting this scheme Gerry developed extensive contacts in government, the City and the construction industry.
Between 1993 and 1998, Gerry was a lay member of the United Kingdom Central Council For Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting (UKCC), appointed by the Secretary of State for Health
